At the beginning of Marissa's lesson on Thursday 26th September we all watched each other's picture postcards to see what people had created with what postcard their group had been given and how different each member's of a group's picture postcard is compared to other members of the group's picture postcards. After we watched everyone's picture postcard we were introduced to one of our next projects which is the video installation that we are going to be doing with Marissa. Before we went to the Nottingham Contemporary after break we did a brainstorm and we watched some video installations by past students of Nottingham College and of the course from a few years ago. The topics covered in the video installations we watched included schizophrenia, sexuality, feeling trapped and constrained, expressing emotions and retrospective. Below is a brainstorm of everything to consider when creating a video installation and also pictures from the Still Undead: Popular Culture in Britain Beyond the Bauhaus exhibition at the Nottingham Contemporary and the sheet that we have to complete for our gallery research too.

Exhibition(s): Still Undead: Popular Culture in Britain Beyond the Bauhaus
Artists: Gerald Battle-Welch, Richard Hamilton, Stephen Willats, Robyn Beeche etc.
Concept/Idea of Exhibition: The exhibition explores how the Bauhaus's teaching and ideas lived on in Britain via pop culture and art schools. The exhibition coincides with the centenary of the pioneering art and design schools founding in Weimar. Spanning the 1920s to 90s, and including works by some 50 artists, designers and musicians, Still Undead shows the eclectic and fragmented ways in which the Bauhaus's legacy has been transmitted and transformed.

Piece 1: Kraftwerk- "The Model" by Kraftwerk, first broadcast on Top of the Pops-1982-video (courtesy of BBC). I like the way the video has been edited together with the use of the camera being placed in different positions for the same shot in order to create an effect of jitteriness and static movement which looks quite strange but also really different and unique.
Piece 2: Adam Dancing-1980-Colour xerox (courtesy of Millicent McMillan). Concorde-1982-colour xerox on card (courtesy of Millicent MacMillan). Laurie-Rae Chamberlin (b. 1950) was a punk inspired artist and printmaker who, in the 1970s and 80s, created a variety colour photocopier. His work features on record covers for This Heat and The Flying Lizards and his Super 8 footage features in a video for The Ants. In 1982, Chamberlin appeared on Riverside, a BBC 2 culture programme. The interview features him demonstrating his "xerography art", a process that involves reducing, enlarging and adjusting images to create graphic montages. This approach became popular amongst musicians and zine-makers because it was inexpensive to produce and distribute. I think it is really interesting and intriguing how it works and how amazing the different visuals look.
Inspiration- What has inspired you? How could the things you have seen and heard inspire your installation?
What's inspired me from the Still Undead exhibition at the Nottingham Contemporary is the two above pieces that I have mentioned, Robyn Beeche's Bauhaus:Spirals and Stephen Willat's Architectural Relief that really caught my attention and I was inspired by it as I think that my video installation will incorporate the use of perspective as well as unique camera work along with abstract visuals too.
