FMP- Weekly Reflection (Easter Break: Week 2)

As a part of research this week I completed target audience research, theoretical research, developmental research and historical research. For target audience research I looked at statistics about the music tastes of people in the U.S. and across the whole world (based on 2018 statistics at least) using the source I have cited. What they show is that even if Rock is the most popular music genre in the U.S. it is not the most popular worldwide as that is the music genre Pop, which implies that Rock music thrives in certain countries while dwindling in other countries unlike Pop which has a popularity that reaches across the globe successfully everywhere. For theoretical research, I related Bulmler and Katz’s Used and Gratifications theory to my music video that I am creating for my FMP this year by stating how it allows for a good amount of catharsis to happen when watching my music video as well.

For developmental research, I watched a video on YouTube about the four different types of daylight used in production which are “Hollywood Light”, “Harsh Daylight”, “Orange Daylight” and “Gray Daylight”. Then finally, for my historical research I looked at the creation of MTV and where music videos originated from as I felt that it was important to understand how music videos are conceived. I think it is best I know this before I attempt to make my own unique music video using the knowledge about the medium to help improve the quality of my own FMP which is the way I am going to utilise all of the research that I have done as doing so will make for a very professional and evidenced project at the end of the whole process.

The parts of pre-production that I have completed this week include the location recces, budget sheet, filming notices and location release forms. The location recces show multiple different angles of the grassy field (and the street it is on to) as well as different parts of the town centre/streets that I am filming in too. The budget sheet is quite simple as it states the prices of everything that I am using during pre-production, production and post-production while also stating whether I already own it or whether I would have to purchase the item/equipment/prop/costume/software myself if I were a freelancer. The filming notices are used to notify the general public that filming is taking place in the nearby area and the location release forms are used to show that I have permission to film in the locations I am filming in so I have the legal right to film in the locations I am.

Overall, I feel like I worked very well this week and I achieved my target of working at a faster pace and getting more work done during the week too so I am pleased about being able to work at a speed now that I would consider both efficient and productive. However, what I need to achieve and complete by the deadline next Tuesday at 4:00pm is the storyboard, risk assessment, log line, character bio and music video synopsis in order for me to be satisfied with the amount of pre-production that I have completed for this project as I feel like as long as I have the compulsory parts done as well as other parts that I feel are relevant to the type of project I am creating for my FMP, which is a music video so as long as I have extra pre-production that adds to my project then I will be pleased.
