On the 10th September we officially started back at college and we started the new year in Faye's lesson by beginning our first project which is the picture postcard project. We got put into groups of three and I am in a group with Ella and Jack. Below are some notes that I made during the brainstorm for our picture postcard project.

  • Chili

  • Two extremes- darkness and brightness- surreal and realistic

  • Food

  • Surreal

  • Thermal

  • Realistic chili pepper (dark background) surreal chili pepper (hot background)

  • Getting a lot more intense and worse as time progresses.

  • The more realistic the pepper is the better times (the past) to the more unrealistic pepper that represents the worse times (the present).

  • Shots of sand timer, littering, car exhaust pipe, smoking.

  • Stock footage- plastic in the ocean, ice caps in the ocean, power plants

  • Metronome ticking (audio only).

Before we did all of that though we received our brief (below) which in basic terms states that for the picture postcard we will works a team to write a basic proposal of our idea, avoid including the postcard/or literal interpretations, each production of each postcard should be no longer than 15- 30 seconds and we will work in groups of 3- BUT we edit our own version.

Will add pictures of proposal at home.

Rationale and Proposal

The rationale is why we are doing the idea that we have chosen to do for the picture postcard project and the proposal is what our idea is, who we will have in the 15-30 second project (what character), where it will take place and be set and how we will achieve what we create what we are setting out to create.

Shooting Script

The shooting script states what directions the actor has to follow and the actions he needs to do in order to make the picture postcard as close to our vision of what we want it to be as well as he possibly can which he will be able to do easiest by following the shooting script.

Location Recce

The location recce is basically going out to the location we're filming in, which in our case was the car park at 10 Short Hill, and see whether the location we chose is suitable for the filming that we want to do in the location and also what potential issues we could face while trying to film (safety and busyness) what we need to film in the location that we're in.

Risk Assessment

The risk assessment is essentially what states the dangers and risks of filming in the location that we are planning on filming at. The risk assessment above includes the potential hazard, who is at risk of the hazard, what the actual risk is, the measures put in place to stop the risk from becoming a reality and the level of risk as well.

Storyboard

The storyboard is a visual representation of a shot list so what would be written out and described in a shot list is drawn and illustrated in a storyboard which is a good way to understand how we exactly want the shots to look and how we want the picture postcard to look as a whole too.

Shot List

The shot list is a description of the type of shots that we're going to do for the picture postcard project, what shot number the shot is and what the shot includes as well. The difference between a shot list and a storyboard is we will have to imagine and picture what the shot will look like for the shot list whereas with the shot list you don't because it's all already drawn out so it's much easier to follow and make it look like what we originally envisioned it looking like.

Project Action Plan and Timetable

The project action plan and timetable is what states what part of production of the project we are at what week, what date the week is (week beginning 6th September and 16th September) and the resources we use in order to complete what we needed to during the three different stages of production.
