Weekly Reflection- Week 1 (Dystopian Film Essay) Lesson 2

On Thursday 14th November we had an emergency session at lunch time so that everybody knows what to do for the Dystopian Futures Essay. Essentially, what happened was Faye went through a recap of everything that needs to be included in the essay which includes the following. The advanced theory that relates to your film (Marxism, Oppression and Colonialism- Frantz Franon, Social Dominance Theory, 'The Subjection of Women'- John Stuart Mill and Backlash by Stuart Faludi) by swapping handouts and PowerPoints with each other in order to give everyone the information they need to complete the essay. Faye emphasized that we need to include what the four types of societal control that are prevalent in dystopian films and which ones are present in my chosen films in my essay? Also, how do the systems of control shown in the film reflect the fears of society at the time of productions? How they could represent a modern day dystopia is something we must mention in our essays too. After receiving the handouts and the PowerPoints that were put on the Facebook everyone left the emergency session having a much better idea of what they need to do for the essay. I feel a lot more confident about my Dystopian Futures Essay and I think I really took in the information and guidance that Faye gave us about what do so now I am aware of what I must include and what I must do to write the best essay I can write with the best insight I can give.
